Adirondack Art WalksInterested in getting more involved in your area’s art scene? Looking for an exceptional piece to hang in your living room? Or just searching for something to do on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night? Art Walks can give you all three! From open galleries, to special exhibits, to live music, and great food, Art Walks highlight the area’s local businesses, while supporting the communities’ cultural investments. Choose one, or more near you from the list below.

Glens Falls welcomes art exploration in their Third Thursday Art Walks, which take place in various downtown venues from 5pm to 8pm. Here you’ll find visual artists, along with writers, filmmakers, and musicians. And if that’s not enough to keep you busy, there are also lectures, demonstrations, and theatrical performances that take place along with the Walk. At 8pm on the corner of Bay & Glen, you can also see some great outdoor cinema, presented by Art in the Public Eye. The annual Chalk Fest occurs in August, so don’t forget to stop by then. Maps can be found at Scoville Jewelers and UnCorked on Glen Street. Check www.glensfallsartwalk.com for more info.

Third Thursday Art Walks also take place in North Creek through September, and run from 5pm to 7pm, along Main Street. There are over 10 participating businesses, and each is marked with a red balloon. Refreshments are served at each of the venues, and you have the added bonus of meeting the featured artist each month to discuss their work! North Creek is full of great art, couple that with it being a hip and quaint, cool town, so you’ll definitely want to stop by this one.

Third Thursdays are a popular day in the Adirondacks for art, so if you’re a little further upstate, you’ll want to check out the Third Thursday Art Walks in Saranac Lake. These take place from 4:30pm to 7pm in the downtown area, and offer performances, live classical music, demonstrations, and visual and literary arts. Look for the balloons and find maps at participating businesses. Call 518-891-1139 for more information.

Moving onto Friday…Kicking off the Friday Art Walks is Old Forge. Old Forge’s Art Walks take place on the first Friday evening of each month and run from June through October. The Arts Center will also be offering admission to its exhibitions at a reduced fare during this time, meaning you pay the same price as a member; drinks and hors d’oeuvres will also be served. Maps are available at Gallery 3040, as well as at participating businesses.

Next up on the Friday list is Ballston Spa. Ballston Spa hosts a First Fridays Art Walk from 6pm to 9pm, with free movies in Wiswall Park, arts and crafts, wine tasting, photography showcases, and face painting for the kids! The last film shown during the Art Walks was Coraline. Visit www.ballston.org/First-Fridays for more information and to view participating businesses.

Art Night Schenectady takes place on the third Friday of every month from 5pm to 9pm. Play Mindball at the Schenectady Museum, see how glass is melted to make beads, eat crepes, or listen to jazz, among a wide variety of other activities! Visit www.artnighschenectady.com for a list of events, maps, and flyers. Also, check out the video at the end of this article to get a better feel for Art Night Schenectady, and Art Walks in general.

And last on the list is Saturday. If Saturday is your day for art, then you’re going to want to make your way to Saratoga. Saratoga puts on First Saturdays Art Walks, giving you a glimpse into the city’s vibrant art scene. The Art Walks occur from 5pm to 8pm on the first Saturday of each month along Broadway, Spring Street, and Beekman Street, and feature local galleries, artist receptions, local restaurant specials, and a free trolley service!
