The Big Kicker Kicks Off Ski Season in Vermont

Protestors in NYC and Oakland have also been asked to step down and many arrests have been made. After a shooting in City Hall Park that resulted in the death of a 35-year-old veteran, the motives and goals of the occupy movements have been again shrouded in a fog. As an onlooking citizen, I find myself simultaneously confused and hopeful that economic justice might find a home in this country. Even as we see the occupy sites return to their ordinary, everyday appearance, I urge everyone to remain aware and active in following the news stories. We appreciate all of those who have struggled to keep us motivated, active and strong through these hard times and the battle is far from over.

In light of the darker days and colder nights, I am pleased to announce a stellar ski and ride event this weekend. Sugarbush resort and Mad River Glen are hosting an event dubbed The Big Kicker on Saturday, November 20th. Although the season has not officially begun for the snow-thirsty skiers and riders of the valley, this event will not only get you excited about the season, but it is also sure to awe all yours senses with sights, sounds and tastes to please.

Mt. Ellen at Sugarbush. Photo by Chrissy LefavourSugarbush holds a special place in my heart, it is where I first learned how to ski and where I returned to on my snowboard less than ten years later. The mountain has two peaks, Lincoln Peak and Mt. Ellen, and Mad River Glen is right next door in the valley, boasting extreme natural snowfall and a “skiers-only” venue. The two ski areas have come together to have a community celebration (forget the flood, we’re ready to ski!) with many local sponsors like The Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce, Cabot Cheese and Point FM-104.7. The event invited skiers, art lovers, and moviegoers alike to come together and get stoked.

The party starts at 5pm at The Big Picture in Waitsfield (an impressive music/movie/art/food venue in it’s own right) with a rail jam put together by the Sugarbush Parks Crew. At 6pm, there will be a photography show and reception offering a new look at some local talent with a local backdrop. Skiing legend Dan Egan will show his movie Wild World of Winter and share some of his adventures in shooting the film. At 8:30pm the music starts with a laser disco dance show, and at 9pm there will be a seasons pass giveaway to top off the night! Whether you’re looking for extreme adventure, spellbinding artwork, a good dance party or just a chance to get out and celebrate the Mad River community, stop by The Big Kicker in Waitsfield on Saturday, November 20, 2011.

Get ready for winter, for it won’t be long now! Wishing you all a snowy, fluffy future; fingers crossed for opening day during Thanksgiving week!

Ciao.
