Chicks with Guitars, Live at Red Square
Kelly Zullo, Erin Harkes, Olivia Quillo, Laura Joy, and Molly Durnin join forces to put on an evening of acoustic heaven entitled Chick Singers of the Capital Region. However, expect to spend a little more if you plan on indulging in Red Square’s extensive beer list. The current draught line-up includes Dogfish Head Midas Touch, Abita Purple Haze and Turbo Dog, Magic Hat Hex, Circus Boy, Brooklyn Brown Ale and Lager, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Guinness.
Rather than try to describe their unique music and fail miserably, I have included links:
Kelly Zullo: Kelly will be headlining the night, and her music is described as folk, and anti-folk. That description still confuses me, but she won me over with the song “Stone Girl.” www.myspace.com/kellyzullo/music
Erin Harkes: You have to hear the sample of “One Day In A Row” on her website. It’s the perfect amount of brooding and melody. www.erinharkes.com/music_video.html
Olivia Quillo: She reminds me of a more volatile Norah Jones, and I mean that as a compliment! Check out “New Lover, Live @ WEXT” at www.myspace.com/oliviaquillio
Laura Joy: Folk music so pretty you’ll have to stop your ears from floating away. Listen to “Rose Remains” and you’ll only realize later you slipped into a whimsical trance. www.myspace.com/laurajoymusic
Molly Durnin: I’m hooked on her song “14000 Feet.” With just under 4000 plays I guess I’m not the only one. www.myspace.com/mollydurninmusic
What more can you ask for? Talented musicians, good beer, and plenty of couches for lounging all in the same venue. This Thursday head over to Red Square to relax and listen, and ponder life or forget it as need be. The show will begin at 8pm, and tickets are $6. Red Square is located at 388 Broadway, in Albany.
