Dan Reynolds at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse

Dan Reynolds Unwrapped, Everson Museum of ArtCentral New York enjoys the art culture. But, few know that the artists in the area include proper cartoonists. The Everson Art Museum is currently hosting an exhibit of local cartoonist, Dan Reynolds. Reynolds Unwrapped: The Cartoon Art of Dan Reynolds boasts over 200 samples of the artist’s talent and wit. His work is published in Farside Gallery and his own calendars.

An Oswego native, the artist uses his Central New York roots to inspire his work. Some pieces even directly reference Reynolds’ home town. Reynolds gives humorous life to human and animal daily activities as cows mock chickens crossing roads and everyone goes bowling. He even does great spoofs on classic movie and cartoon icons like the Wizard of Oz and Peanuts.

Reynold’s small-scale drawings frequently depict the comedic daily lives of humans and animals alike, bringing to mind the work of Gary Larson and Bill Watterson. His work has been seen by millions of readers throughout the world, appearing regularly in Reader’s Digest. In addition, he’s published a series of Reynolds Unwrapped compilations of his work.

Reynolds Unwrapped: The Cartoon Art of Dan Reynolds runs Through July 10, 2011. A copy of his 2012 calendar is also available in the museum shop…this way, everyone can go, have a laugh, and bring home a giggle or two.
