Bourbon Barrel-Aged Beers at Adirondack Pub & Brewery’s Festival of Barrels

2012 Festival of Barrels in Lake GeorgeLooking for something fun to do next weekend in the Lake George area? You may want to check out the Adirondack Pub & Brewery’s (APB) Festival of Barrels.

The festival begins at 2pm and runs until 6pm on Saturday, January 28, 2012, on the deck of the Adirondack Pub & Brewery, located at 33 Canada St. in Lake George.

Each ticket includes vouchers for 5 beers and a complementary mug. Samples of Adirondack Pub & Brewery’s rare, Bourbon Barrel-Aged beers will be available, including the 2010 and 2011 Vintage Fat Scotsman, Bourbon Aged CoCo-Laboration (chocolate smoked porter) and Double Dry Hopped IPA aged in white oak barrels. Appetizers and entrees will also be served.

If you’re not so up on your beer jargon, “Bourbon Barrel-Aged beers” simply refers to when distilled beverages, like wine, sherry or in this case bourbon are kept inside a barrel in order to ferment. Whereas beers are brewed to fermentation and occasionally left to age, bourbon whiskey is fermented, and then left in oak barrels to age, so that the whiskey absorbs the additional flavors in the wood. A beer aged in a bourbon barrel is done with the same goals in mind. Not only is the beer picking up on the strong flavors of vanilla and resin from the barrel, but there is a hint of leftover bourbon, as well, which makes for a tasty treat, especially in the coming cold weather.

Visitors to the Festival of Barrels can look forward to sampling other APB beers of more traditional methods. Café Vero Stout, Belgium White Peach and Maple Porter are just a few. The pub’s all American menu will be available.

Tickets purchased in advance are $20; $25 on the day of the event. Guests must be 21 or older to attend. Purchases can be made during regular business hours or online at
