A Sneak Peek at this Year’s LGDT Production

Moonlight and Magnolias is a delightful comedy inspired by real life events in which legendary Producer David O. Selznick shuts down the production of Gone With the Wind and fires director George Cukor, because he’s unhappy with the first two weeks of shooting. As a result, Selznick summons award-winning screenwriter Ben Hecht (who hasn’t even read Margaret Mitchell’s source novel) and director Victor Fleming (who’s being driven to distraction by Munchkins while filming The Wizard of Oz). Over the course of five grueling days, behind locked doors, and with nothing but bananas and peanuts, Selznick and Fleming elaborately enact the whole of Mitchell’s 1100 page tome for Hecht, who frantically writes the screenplay for what will become one of Hollywood’s legendary films.

According to LGDT Producer Terry Rabine, “I was drawn to Moonlight and Magnolias because I wanted to offer our audience something a bit different for our 46th season. I was looking to get away from the romantic comedy genre that we’ve frequently produced at LGDT and was interested in the possibilities of a story that takes place in 1939. Hutchinson’s play, which has enjoyed a number of successful productions since its release in 2005, offered virtually everything I was looking for in a play and should be very popular with our audience.”

The Lake George Dinner Theatre’s 2013 season will open on July 11 and run through October 12 with evening performances every Wednesday through Saturday; dinner seating at 6:30pm and curtain at 8pm. Luncheon matinees are scheduled every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with seating at 11:30am and curtain at 1pm.

Discounted tickets are available by calling the LGDT Administrative Office at 518-306-4404. Discounts for groups and tours are available through the Group Sales Office at 518-668-5762 ext. 421. Show-Only tickets may also be purchased with available seating. More information, including menu selection, directions and LGDT history is available at lakegeorgedinnertheatre.com.
