The Love List at The Lake George Dinner Theatre, Preview

A Fun, Romantic Comedy Comes to Lake George this Summer

The Love List at the Lake George Dinner TheatreThe Lake George Dinner Theatre will present its 45th season production of Norm Foster’s comedy, The Love List which will introduce three new faces to LGDT audiences this summer.

Running from July 12th through October 20th, Foster’s 2006 play follows two middle-aged men who complete a gypsy’s matchmaking questionnaire in an effort to find one of them a girlfriend, only to find their “ideal woman” who suddenly appears at the door.

Heading up the cast of The Love List will be Jarel Davidow who also appeared in the New York production of the play when it was produced at Manhattan Theatre Source. His film credits include Fighting Irish, New Detroit and Fillmore Lights.

Joining Davidow in the cast are Rachel Cornish and Bill Saunders. Rachel is co-founder and co-artistic director of the Speranza Theatre Company in NYC. Saunders has appeared in national tours of Footloose, Hello, Dolly, Curtains and The Man Who Came to Dinner. His film credits include Hide, Bedfellows, and The Jinn.

“We’re looking forward to introducing our audience to the new and very talented members of this season’s production” Said Terry Rabine, Producing Artistic Director of LGDT, “and I’m especially happy to be having Jarel Davidow bring his experience from the NYC production of The Love List to our unique theatrical venue.

In a unique turn of events, the storyline of The Love List bears a remarkable resemblance to the soon-to-be-released Fox Searchlight film Ruby Sparks which stars Paul Dano, Elliott Gould, Annette Bening and Antonio Banderas.

In Ruby Sparks, a successful young novelist creates a character in his new novel and is dumbfounded when she, too, appears in the flesh. Both scripts follow the comic repercussions of creating a perfect mate out of thin air.

“One of the truisms of creative writing” adds Rabine, “is that there are only about five original plots in all literature and everything else is based on that handful of stories. The similarities between Foster’s play and the film seem to validate that assumption. For example, literary critics concede that all of William Shakespeare’s plays were based on existing plotlines that he masterfully expanded upon and improved.”

He added, “While The Love List is populated by somewhat older characters than in Ruby Sparks and the resolutions are very different, the stories share a number of remarkable coincidences.  We’re very interested to see if the film’s release brings in theatre-goers who might be interested in comparing the two productions and we’re offering a $6 discount off any full-price admission to dinner theatre patrons who bring in a ticket stub from the film.”

The LGDT season commences on July 12th and runs through October 20th at the Holiday Inn resort in Lake George. Dinner performances are scheduled for every Wednesday through Saturday and matinee luncheon performances every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and select Saturdays. Tickets for The Love List are available online at lakegeorgedinnertheatre.com or by calling the LGDT box office at 518-668-5762 extension 411.
