A New Direction for The Lake Theatre, with two Comedies for 2016
The Lake Theatre Produces Two Shows for 2016
Two Quirky Comedies are Cast for this Year’s season
In a departure from previous seasons, The Lake Theatre will be producing two shows this year: Almost, Maine by John Cariani and Kathleen Clark’s Southern Comforts.
“We had a terrific turnout for auditions both in New York City and locally (more than 225 actors auditioned for us),” says Producer Terry Rabine, “and we’re very pleased to have cast actors from both auditions for this season’s expanded season of two plays.”
The cast of Almost, Maine will feature Lake George native Hillary Parker, currently a professional actress living in Philadelphia and a talent familiar to regional theatregoers. Her credits include Lake Theatre’s 2014 production of Lake Effect, Capital Rep, with the Peterborough Players and Saratoga Shakespeare Company.
Also featured in the cast will be NYC professionals David Perez Ribada, Samantha Rosentrater and local actor Patrick Rooney. All will play a variety of roles in Cariani’s funny and sweet series of nine interrelated scenes, all of which explore love in an atmosphere of theatrical magical realism, in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, the town’s quirky residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Almost, Maine runs from July 21 through September 3.
Following Almost, Maine will be Southern Comforts, a delightful “December-December” romantic comedy about a grumpy Yankee widower and a vivacious widow from Tennessee who find what they least expected – a second chance at love. When they decide to “tie the knot”, the fireworks that ensue are funny, awkward, and enchanting.
Featured in the production will be two regional professionals making their Lake Theatre debut. Ron Komora has been seen many times by local theatregoers in a variety of productions at NYSTI, Capital Rep and Leatherstocking Theatre, among others. Ron will be joined onstage by Nancy Rothman, whose credits include Blue Horse Repertory, Walking the Dog Theatre, Barrington Stage Company, the Actors’ Ensemble and PS21. Southern Comforts will run from September 15 through October 22.
