MYNE Kennel Hosts Day-Long Celebration Honoring Man’s Best Friend

Responsible Dog Ownership Day, MYNE KennelThroughout the country this September, pet owners are taking part in a month-long celebration sponsored by the American Kennel Club (AKC) that educates the dog-loving community on the importance of being a responsible owner. Here, in our area, this animal lover’s event was observed on Sunday, September 25, 2011 from 1pm to 4pm, through Responsible Dog Ownership Day at the MYNE Training and Boarding Facility in Argyle. The cool thing about MYNE Kennel‘s event is not only is it open to all pets (yes even your guinea pig is welcome here), but having attended last year’s event, we can honestly tell you that it’s just as fun for people as well.

You may be thinking that’s a little hard to believe, but we’re not exaggerating. Here’s a look at some of what goes on during MYNE’s Responsible Dog Ownership Day.

As to the specifics, this year’s Responsible Dog Ownership Day event includes:

Demonstrations by members of the Collie Club of Eastern NY and the Eastern NY Shetland Sheepdog Club and rally and obedience matches from the Shetland Sheepdog Club; Responsible Dog Ownership Month Obedience and Conformation run throughs (think simulated dog shows); a Blessing of the Animals; and communication readings from Animal Communicator Coryelle Kramer. In addition, there will be several vendors at the event, including Joanne Chapwick, bringing along a variety of dog accessories, and representatives from Pet Net will be on hand with free dog food samples. Jill M. Stewart will also be giving demonstrations on the benefits of animal aromatherapy and animal massage.

A new addition this year involves testing for Therapy Dogs International, a New Jersey based volunteer organization that regulates and tests therapy dogs and their handlers who visit nursing homes, hospitals and other places where therapy dogs are needed.

Responsible Dog Ownership Day, MYNE KennelThere will also be a microchipping clinic featuring a veterinarian from Schuylerville’s Saint Francis Veterinary Hospital, as well as representatives from an Animal Rescue Shelter in Salem. Other fun events include a hot dog dunking contest (no, not dunking dachsunds, we’re talking the Oscar Meyer variety) and an all animal parade; costumes for the parade are optional, however if your furry friend likes prizes, we suggest you bring along their costume, as some pretty cool goodies will be given out to the winners. Additional activities will include obedience classes, self-bathing, dog boarding, puppy day care and AKC K9 Good Citizen testing.

Each year, MYNE Kennel’s Responsible Dog Ownership Day attracts about 150 people, along with their pets. What makes it special is the people who come and the people who host it.

MYNE Kennel is owned and operated by Ken and Cheryl Marks and provides education for owners on proper obedience training in accordance with the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) requirements of the AKC. In addition, Ken and Cheryl bring their dogs into nursing homes and work with children on a weekly basis. With over 25 years of experience in training and showing dogs throughout the US and Canada, they’ve garnered a reputation for their commitment to excellence and love of animals.

As to their services, MYNE provides  self-bathing and day care and around-the-clock supervised boarding. Each guest is given special one-on-one personal treatment (rest assured, your pets will always get lots o’ love here). Their on-site bathing and grooming facilities include a state-of-the-art Hydro-jet Bathing System and a self-service dog wash, where pet owners can easily bathe and dry their pets. MYNE also offers a comprehensive day care program for puppies with plenty of activities and one-on-one attention.

So grab your pets and bring them out for a fun-filled afternoon…they certainly deserve it.
