The New Year’s Edition: Best Bets for NYE in Ithaca

New Year’s Eve Events in Ithaca

With most of the students gone, the full-time residents get a winter respite from the throngs of cars and crowds in all their favorite places. And honestly, there’s no better time to visit a few of those favorite places than on New Year’s Eve when many of them throw down their best behind the bar, on the stage and even on the table. Check out your five best bets to ring in the New Year in Ithaca:

1. A standby favorite with a crowd literally spilling out the door is the Felicia’s Atomic Lounge New Year’s Eve, well, extravaganza. Starting early in the evening (for those who like to get home before the ball drops) join perennial favorite Lisa Bloom (now in her 7th year doing this early show) with your favorite jazz standards and show tunes. Stick around for the rest of the night for an amazingly good time, and even better drinks.  Complimentary toast at midnight…if you make it that long.

2. The Haunt also brings you a local favorite or two with 3 sets of music from electro-rockers Jimkata and DJ Gourd spinning between sets to keep you moving. $15 gets you in the door (and on the dance floor), a champagne toast and midnight buffet!

3. Head on over to Castaways for a memorable evening with local (and beyond) favorite The Sim Redmond Band and special guest Kevin Kinsella.  Be among the first 75 folks to order your tickets in advance ($12) and get a Sim CD on your way in ($15 at the door). Another really great time, great crowd and music you can dance and sway to.

4. The Finger Lakes Wine Center and Downtown Ithaca are hosting an all-out New Year’s Eve blow out featuring the Jeff Love Band, an 11-piece soul/funk band, wine, beer and amazing food. You’ll be able to watch the ball drop on a big screen and toast the New Year with the downtown crowd.

5. And finally, the Lakewatch Inn hosts Ithaca DJ Mac’s New Year’s Eve Bash a night of dancing, music, drinks and food for the LGBT community and friends. This is sure to be a great party from what I’m told. Tickets are available at the door for $25.

Bonus: I’d be remiss if I didn’t at least give a shout out to the great show happening at Trumansburg staple The Rongo who’ll host The Destination and another big local favorite The Burns Sisters.

Whatever you choose, even if it’s a quite night at home, a bottle of champagne, maybe some close friends and family, I hope you’ll have a happy, healthy and safe New Year. 2012 looks good from here.
