The corn is just about ready to be picked (in some cases it already has) and it also means that the State Fair is right around the corner. For over 120 years, the Washington County Fair has been one of the largest fairs in New York State. County Fair’s are not just a great place to unwind, go on all the ides and eat plenty of food; they offer plenty of information on New York’s rich agricultural history.

It’s also served as a great venue for families to see numerous live animals, various crafts and catch some great live music.

This year’s Washington County Fair, running from Monday, Aug 19th through Sunday, Aug 25th in Greenwich, NY, offers great entertainment and activities such as exhibits, demonstrations, tractor pulls, a farm museum and up to 50 judged contests.

Here are some of this year’s highlights:

Monday, August 19th
The Fair officially opens staring off with a giant pumpkin contest (5:30pm) and two sets of great country and bluegrass (6 & 8pm) by local legend Smokey Greene at the Entertainment Tent. The Washington County Fair Pro Rodeo will get underway at 7pm at the Motor Sports Arena.

Tuesday, August 20th
This is Carnival Fun Day, which means a $20 wristband will give you unlimited access to the many carnival rides at the fair. There are many animal themed activities during the day, including a Youth Dressage show at the Horse Arena starting at 9am. The Draft Animal Tent will host an Open Ox Versatility Show at 10am and an Open Draft Horse Versatility exhibition at 4pm. If you’re interested in Rabbits and Goats, you can check out youth exhibitions of these animals early in the day (other animals will be judged throughout the week…there’s plenty to see!) There will be ongoing demonstrations of rug hooking with the Easton Rug Hookers throughout the day. Comedian and hypnotist Brad Matchett will perform in the Entertainment Tent at 8pm.

Wednesday, August 21st
If you love live music, then you’re in for a treat as the Adirondack Fiddlers take the stage at the Entertainment Tent at 10am & 1:30pm. Bobby Dick will take the stage for two sets at 6 & 8pm. Other events include Antique Tractor and 4 Wheel Drive Diesel Truck Pulls at the Motor Sports Arena as well as NBHA Barrel Racing at the Horse Arena starting at 5pm. And don’t miss the Rooster Crowing Contest at 6:30pm!

Friday, August 23rd

Saturday, August 24th
An NYTPA Sanctioned Tractor Pull Motor will take place at the Sports Arena at 1 & 7pm. Also, and this sounds like a blast, you can make cars out of vegetables and race them at the Ag Center from 7-8pm. The Hand Picked Band will perform at the Entertainment Tent at 6 &8 pm.

Sunday, August 25th
Here’s what you’ve been waiting for: Monster Trucks and the Demolition Derby will take place at the Motor Sports Arena at 2 & 3pm, respectively.
